他于1987年获任命为儿童基金会的亲善大使。Belafonte先生在一生中一直公开反对不正义。他站在美国境内捍卫人权斗争的前列，也是“艺术家联合援助非洲协会”的一位核心人士，并曾参加演唱1986年那首名为“我们是世界”的歌。Belafonte先生多年来一直支持儿童基金会的各项努力，组织了义演音乐会和筹款活动并参加演出，走访各国并为儿童大声疾呼。他向美国国会做了各种工作，力图说明当局制订各项惠及儿童的政策，这些努力对于儿童基金会和世界各地儿童的事业来说十分重要。
