1945年3月30日，Eric Clapton出生英国英格兰地区的Ripley，原名Eric Patrick Clapp。由于受到了祖母的熏陶，Eric Clapton从小就与布鲁斯音乐结下了不解之缘，不过与其他一些很小的时候就开始练习演奏吉他的吉他演奏家相比，15岁才开始弹奏吉他的Eric Clapton的起步年龄似乎要晚很多，但是很明显，Eric Clapton是所有吉他演奏家中成长最为迅速的一位。1962年，年仅17岁的Eric Clapton从金斯顿艺术大学(Kingston College of Art)辍学，开始凭借自己的吉他演奏技术在英国当地的大小酒馆里演出养活自己。随后不久为了自己更远大的音乐理想，Eric Clapton前往伦敦寻梦。
