by Johnny LoftusBlue Rose was a bluegrass combo that continued to break the traditional, male modes of the genre with its all-female lineup. The group was comprised of dobroist Sally Van Meter; renowned fiddler Laurie Lewis; banjoist Cathy Fink; the guitar and mandolin of Marcy Marxer; and bassist Molly Mason. Blue Rose's lone release was a self-titled affair on Sugar Hill in 1972; Fink and Lewis contributed lead vocals to the project, which included a swinging take on the obscure Hank Williams number "Blue Love."
