Tony macalpine（东尼.麦考潘）是近20年来摇滚史上最重要的黑人全方位吉他手，以充满演奏技巧与音乐情感的音乐，展现出浑然天成不留斧凿的大师风范！东尼.麦考潘这个属于新古典金属主义（Neo-classical）乐派的黑色旋风，打破当时由白人所占据的摇滚乐界，而挣得一席之地，从他自1986年推出第一张个人专辑，以纯熟的技巧、高超的演奏能力，震撼了整个吉他乐界之后，12年中不断有新的作品问世，可说是创作力极强的乐手.
　　而Tony MacAlpine为人所称道的，不只是他的吉他演奏，他的键盘演奏更是一绝，还曾跨刀到别的团当键盘手，在专辑中他也露了一手钢琴独奏，由于他古典钢琴的素养极为深厚，所以他的音乐处处透露了古典味，而他融合了Rock、Jazz、Blues等音乐元素，更不是一般新古典派或速弹派的吉他手所能比拟的，他的弹奏充满了情感，将speedpicking、arpeggio、tapping等技巧融合的浑然天成，不留凿斧，配合鼓手和贝斯手的出色表现，以简单的配置弹出异常丰富的乐曲。
Progressive metal guitar virtuoso Tony MacAlpine began his musical education as a classically-trained pianist and violinist; his subsequent rock recordings retained a pronounced classical influence, incorporating elements of jazz and fusion as well. He debuted in 1986 with the instrumental Edge of Insanity, recorded with an all-star line-up including bassist Billy Sheehan and ex-Journey drummer Steve Smith; for the follow-up, Project: Driver, MacAlpine formed the band M.A.R.S. with drummer Tommy Aldridge, vocalist Bob Rock and bassist Rudi Sarzo. The group quickly dissolved and MacAlpine returned to his solo career, additionally forming his own label, Squawk; after 1987s Maximum Security, he founded another group, dubbed simply MacAlpine, with singer Alan Schorn, keyboardist Mark Robertson, bassist Mike Jacques and drummer Billy Carmassi. The bands lone record, Eyes of the World, appeared in 1990, and MacAlpine returned to instrumental projects for the remainder of the decade, issuing a series of albums including 1992s Freedom to Fly, 1995s Evolution, 1997s Live Insanity and 2000s Cab. Cab 2 followed in 2001.
