Gwyllion was born in September 2003, when Rhymes of Destruction & Double Diamond veterans Martijn & Wouter Debonnet teamed up with lead vocalist Annelore Vantomme.
The classically trained keyboard player Joris Debonnet, acclaimed bass player Thomas Halsberghe and renowned guitarist Steve Deleu joined the band to complete the line-up. All of these members already had a vast experience in the Belgian metal scene and beyond, and this experience was applied to mould the band’s heavy yet melodic sound.
Gwyllion gained instant recognition in the Belgian music scene, and a long list of gigs followed both in Belgium and The Netherlands. In each venue, new fans were convinced, gaining the band a respectable following and resulting in support slots for After Forever, Haggard and D:S:O. A first album was released in the spring of 2007, which already sold over 1 000 copies worldwide through internet marketing, gig sales and a consignation deal with LSP records.
