born on October 29, 1961 in Split, Croatia, where he still lives today. He graduated from secondary music school and holds a degree in Law. Due to the specific nature of his work, he spends part of the year in Zagreb, London and Belgrade. However, he says that he can be creative only in the place he can call his own – in Split and at the Island of Hvar. For this reason he tries to use every single moment of free time to escape into the world of creation awaiting him there.
The atmosphere of Mediterranean, as well as the influence of different cultures and musical influences at the territory of former Yugoslavia have left their mark in the structure of the melody, arrangements and production techniques. In the 1980s, together with his several years older colleagues he formed a pop group “Magazin”, which has been a runaway success, both in terms of album sales and extensive tours in all former Yugoslav republics, adapting the melodies to the multi-ethnicity of the country and its audience. The very talent for assimilation and directness of creation proved to be crucial for the success at the global market, where Ton詠started his work as a composer specifically through affirmation of this music style, in combination with the sound of classical music.
During the 1990s his career as a composer is further intensified, as he starts to write for various performers, in addition to supporting their careers. High circulations and immense popularity of performers dedicated to specific pop folk genre have resulted in official acknowledgement of Hulji校s the best-selling author of the 90s. Nevertheless, the commercial success caused fresh criticism, arguing that the style in question and specific union of music and business became too profit-driven, neglecting the artistic values. Around that time, Hulji栳tarted his own music production company “Tonika”, with the aim to follow up his work as a composer, and manage the rights of authors and performers working with him. In the following years, three of Ton試rsquo;s songs have been selected for Eurovision Song Contest, marking the start of his successful passage to the international scene, with fusion of classical, folk and pop music in the songs “Nostalgija”, “Strigs of my heart” and especially “Marija Magdalena”. The last-named song was perhaps prevented from winning the contest, as it was threatened to be disqualified in 1999. The further development of Ton試rsquo;s career revealed that people started to recognise his composing style – the British producer and manager Mel Bush, person responsible for careers of a number of artists well-known in the history of pop and rock music, suggested that they start professional collaboration. In joint partnership they formed a London-based production company “HUSH Music”, notching up major success with their very first project – the crossover all-girl string quartet BOND. The single “VICTORY” swept the charts in 21 countries, including the BILLBOARD music chart in the Crossover category. The band appeared in the film XXX vol 2, performing the song “Victory”. Compositions by Ton詠Hulji校re now being used in global marketing of major brands (TOSHIBA, RAIMOND WAILLE), as well as in movie promotion (CASANOVA).
As a part of their next joint project, crossover pianist MAKSIM MRVICA made a brilliant career and now enjoys enormous popularity on the Asian continent. Through HUSH production company and UNIVERSAL and EMI distribution, Ton詠and Mel have jointly realised 9 projects, distributing millions of copies and selling out worldwide tours. In recent years, in cooperation with partner Roman Majeti欠Hulji栨as been running a TV production company “AVA”. Up to now, four TV soap-operas totalling to 680 episodes have been completed and broadcasted, getting fantastic ratings in the whole region. The musical score composed for the series has been presented on a global level by Hulji榲squo;s performers. Ton詠is married, father of a son and a daughter. The whole family is into music.
