Pentatonix为来自德克萨斯州阿灵顿的无伴奏合唱组合（简称PTX），共有五位成员，包括：主唱 (男中音) - Scott Hoying，主唱 (次女高音) - Kirstie Maldonado，主唱 (男高音) - Mitch Grassi，Beatbox / 大提琴手 (男中音) - Kevin Olusola 和新成员贝斯 (男低音) - Matt Sallee，原成员贝斯 (男低音) Avi Kaplan 于2017年5月12日宣布离开。
该团以完美的默契度所演唱的和声，足以媲美乐队伴奏的乐曲。同时，该组合的音乐领域极为丰富，包括摇滚乐、电子乐、雷鬼音乐、乡村音乐、朋克等，每一种风格的音乐作品在他们的演唱之下都富含新颖的内涵，使人产生耳目一新的感觉。并且该队打破了阿卡贝拉的固有传统，用人声涉足流行乐坛，引领了阿卡贝拉界的新潮流。
2012年1月，PTX开始在Youtube开设频道，发布涵盖囊括流行乐和古典音乐的阿卡贝拉翻唱视频，其中包括Gotye的《Somebody that I Used to Know》、PSY的《Gangnam Style》以及Fun的《We are Young》，传播度极高。
万众期待的首张录音室专辑于2012年6月26日发行，在美国公告板200排行榜上位居14位，Digital Chart位居第5位。专辑发行的首周就卖出了20000份，他们通过设在好莱坞的记者见面会、VH1 The Buzz电台、Marie电台以及当地电视节目推广专辑。PTX也在中国版的《The Sing-Off》中担任演出嘉宾，在节目中，Kevin Olusola秀出了他所引以为豪的流利普通话。

该团队刚刚结束了2013年1月24日至5月14日的第二次全国巡回演唱，同时也把更多的素材写进于2013年秋季发行的第二张录音室专辑中。
该团队还委聘与其他艺人进行合作，2013年3月，PTX发行了封面印有小提琴演奏家Lindsey Stirling的封面的专辑的龙吟幻想小调“Radioactive”，该专辑发布就位列美国公告板的榜首。
2013年10月2日，他们在Youtube上发布了翻唱Lorde歌曲《Royals》的视频。
第三张正式EP专辑《PTX, Vol. II》于2013年11月5日正式发布，包含四首翻唱歌曲，其中就不乏传统度极高的Macklemore &Ryan Lewis的《Can't Hold Us》、经典乐队Daft Punk（蠢朋克）的作品串烧（这首串烧获得了格莱美奖，并且在油管上得到病毒式传播）、四首原创歌曲：《Natural Disaster》、《Love Again》、《Hey Momma》和《Run to You》，额外歌曲是Swedish House Mafia的歌曲混搭《Save the World/Don't You Worry Child》。在2013年11月的“艾伦秀”（艾伦·德杰尼勒斯主持）上，PTX宣传了这张专辑，此前他们在Youtube上发布了碧昂丝的歌曲串烧《The Evolution of Beyoncé》（女神演绎）病毒视频，连碧昂丝本人对PTX的精彩演绎大加赞赏。
第四张EP专辑《PTX Vol. III》于2014年9月23日正式发布，包括三首原创歌曲和四首翻唱歌曲。此专辑刚发售后不久便获得大家一致好评，在iTunes专辑排行榜排名前列。
第五张专辑《That's Christmas to Me》在2014年10月21日正式发行，取得了美国唱片协会白金唱片认证，加拿大金唱片认证，更是打榜年度专辑第四，仅次于Taylor Swift《1989》、Frozen大碟、Sam Smith《In The Lonely Hour》。这是PTX生涯的一次飞跃，专辑成绩令人欣喜，更多人开始关注这个阿卡贝拉界的新旋风。
2014年可谓是PTX生涯的一个丰收年，不仅发售了两张专辑（圣诞专销量极高），参加了AMA，格莱美等重大音乐盛会，更是去白宫肯尼迪中心荣誉奖现场演出，在总统奥巴马和第一夫人米歇尔的面前表演了《That Thing You Do》。他们还在电影《完美音调2》中出演加拿大阿卡贝拉团客串了一把。
2015年2月，Pentatonix凭借翻唱混曲代表作“daft punk”赢得了格莱美BEST ARRANGEMENT, INSTRUMENTAL OR A CAPPELLA的奖项。这首全人声的混曲收录于vol.2，在Youtube上得到了病毒式传播。而令人惊讶地是该曲MV在成员Avi和Kevin公寓的厨房里完成拍摄，录音则是在卧室的柜子里完成的。这是一座里程碑，也是一个新起步，这证明了任何喜爱音乐的团体都有可能走向巅峰，完成梦想。PTX也将从翻唱主打逐渐走向原创歌曲，第六张原创专辑《Pentatonix》在2015年10月发行，备受关注。同月发行单曲“That's Christmas to Me: Deluxe Tracks”。
2016年乐队凭借单曲“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”荣获格莱美最佳器乐编曲。同年提名尼克频道儿童选择奖最受欢迎音乐组合，单曲“Cheerleader”提名IHeartRadio音乐大奖年度最佳翻唱单曲，歌曲“Evolution of Michael Jackson”提名威比奖最佳视频混音/混搭。
Pentatonix (abbreviated PTX) is an American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee. Avi Kaplan was formerly a member of the group; he was replaced by Sallee in 2017.
Their work, which is mostly in the pop style, consists of covers of existing songs, sometimes in the form of medleys, along with their original material. Their music is defined by their own arrangement style, tight vocal harmonies, extensive vocal riffing, deep and steady vocal basslines, and a diverse range of vocal percussion and beatboxing.
Pentatonix formed in 2011 and came to prominence the same year by winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC, their victory earning them $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. After being dropped from Epic after The Sing-Off, the group formed their popular YouTube channel and distributed their music through Madison Gate Records, a small independent label owned by Sony Pictures that mainly distributes movie soundtracks. The group also makes effective use of social media to interact with their fan base.
Having now eclipsed 10.5 million subscribers and more than 1.54 billion total views, Pentatonix's official YouTube channel is currently the 13th most subscribed music video channel and the 44th most subscribed channel overall, with their most viewed music video being a tribute to Daft Punk that has accumulated over 200 million views.
Their debut EP PTX, Volume 1 was released in 2012, followed by their holiday release PTXmas the same year, with Pentatonix's third release, PTX, Vol. II, debuting at number 1 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart and number 10 on the Billboard 200 in 2013. In May 2014, Pentatonix signed with RCA Records, a "flagship" label of Sony Music Entertainment, while in the same year, the group released their fourth EP, PTX, Vol. III, and two full-length studio albums; PTX, Vols. 1 & 2, a compilation album released in Japan, Korea and Australia, and their second holiday release, That's Christmas to Me, with the album certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), platinum on December 24, 2014, and double platinum on February 11, 2016, becoming the highest-charting holiday album by a group since 1962, and the fourth-best-selling album in the United States in 2014.The following year, Pentatonix released their eponymous album, their first consisting mostly of original material, which debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart for the first time in their career.
Pentatonix, together with music producer and arranger Ben Bram, won the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella twice, first in 2015 for "Daft Punk" at the 57th Grammy Awards, and then again in 2016 for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" at the 58th Grammy Awards; they are the only a capella band to have won the award.
On April 14, 2016 the music video was released for Pentatonix's cover with Jason Derulo of Shai (band)'s "If I Ever Fall In Love".
Members of Pentatonix appeared on the Fox television show Bones, in the episode "The Strike In The Chord" that originally aired on May 19, 2016.
